Antithesis

Sometimes I wonder about the human race. On the one hand we send gadgets to mars, which then make breakthroughs (and some that didn’t, but anyway). On the other hand we have people in wheelchairs being hit by missiles(!). Is that overkill or what?

I prefer to be optimistic. We will prevail over our homicidal (and similarly suicidal) tendencies. Or we will not and something like this:

…will happen. Still, a quick death is preferable to the fallout from this:

Blimey, ain’t I the soul of the party?

The height of c00l

!! Whinge warning !!

I was watching the news today on channel4 and I saw Jon Snow, henceforth to be known as He-Who-Can’t-Be-Named. Got me thinking about this mania of news programmes to look ‘c00l’ and highly designed. Huge plasma screens, transparent backgrounds showing people working in the back, huge tables, keeping interviewees at a distance… What’s next? The hanging gardens of Babylon?

Check this out. [edit 2013: sadly, pictures from blogger were not preserved]
Tonight, on the stage we have mr He-Who-Can’t-Be-Named with a super-sexy tie harking back to the good ol’ days of fashion, namely anime conventions and cosplay. Would you stand in front of millions of people and talk about paedophilia in that tie? What a joke. In case you wonder where he gets his ties from, here‘s where.

And this lovely gem. [edit 2013: sadly, pictures from blogger were not preserved]

Thanks Jim, tonight our prizes include a HUGE desk and a tiny laptop stand set. You wouldn’t want to get that desk dirty would you? And the winner is…

I am also a bit confused about why the news on channel4 is always so aggressive. Look at the picture, our side, your side. Clearly marked. Lots of sensationalism as well. They did that in Greece, but they got even worse. They actually have ominous music in the background. Yes. As you hear about your neighbour having been violently beaten in her home you hear the london philarmonic orchestra in the background.

Maybe I should start a ‘keep the news away from soap directors’ campaign… sigh…

Obviously the images are (C) channel4 etc blah blah…

Transportation-Schmarportation

Tried to travel from Southampton to the north this friday. The plan was, get on the M1 and get there. The reality was… get on the M1 and remain stationary for 1 hour. Then leave the M1 to escape and spend 2 hours to do 4 miles. Then get stuck on the A1. Then get stuck on the M42 where two lanes where closed.

People, please stop buying cars! Get on the friggin bus…

(Please *whimper*)

Threads

Threads is a film about nuclear war. Pretty old but I must say, extremely effective.

Here’s a picture that illustrates how easy we have it.

[edit 2013: picture long gone. Must have been nuclear fallout image or similar]

There is nothing scarier than hearing those “incoming, duck!” sirens. I swear it would take more than mere guts to live after a nuclear explosion. And the piece de resistance? Those who fired the missiles would die too.

Bugger.

PS: There’s always biological weapons. (Just in case you got too optimistic there)
